📊 Technical Analysis Basics: Support, Resistance & Momentum
What technical analysis is
Technical analysis (TA) studies price charts to find patterns that repeat because markets are driven by human psychology — fear and greed leave footprints. TA does not predict the future; it gives you probabilities and defined levels to trade around.
Support and resistance: the foundation
Support is a price level where buyers historically step in (the floor). Resistance is where sellers appear (the ceiling). Price bounces off these levels until it breaks them. When resistance breaks, it often becomes support — and vice versa. Mark the obvious levels on your chart before every trade.
Trends: your friend, honestly
- Uptrend: higher highs and higher lows. Buy pullbacks to support.
- Downtrend: lower highs and lower lows. Avoid catching falling knives.
- Sideways: range-bound. Trade the edges or stay out.
Volume tells the truth
Breakouts on high volume are meaningful; breakouts on low volume often fail. Volume confirms whether real money agrees with the move.
Momentum and the tools traders use
Momentum indicators (RSI, MACD) measure how fast price moves. RSI above 70 is "overbought" and below 30 "oversold" — but in strong trends price can stay overbought for weeks. Indicators support the chart; they do not replace it. Our candlestick pattern library explains the price patterns traders watch most.
The honest limits of TA
Charts lag reality, and in crypto, news and whale moves can smash any level instantly. Use TA to plan (levels, stops, targets), not to predict with certainty. Combine it with risk management and everything stays under control.
